Mountain Pearl passed performance testing with the Irish Horse Board in Ireland, in 1993. He is to date, one of the few RID stallions in North America to have done so. His test consisted of an inspection, as well as being analyzed in depth and rated both under saddle, and over fences. Details of his test Progeny performance: A growing number of Mountain Pearl's offspring have accumulated points with the Showjumping Association of Ireland (S.J.A.I.) Again, he is one of the few stallions (if not the only) standing in North America whose offspring have accumulated points in difficult jumping competitions in Ireland. People have asked for many years why we don't show Mountain Pearl. We have long wanted to. However, being a very small breeding operation supported to some degree by regular jobs, the hurdles have been numerous - Mountain Pearl's busy breeding schedule, lack of a suitable trainer, mares and foals to care for, etc. The good new is that in 2004 all the pieces fell into place! Mountain Pearl competed at training and first level dressage this summer with solid performances and good scores. He also won the Cosequin/USDF Breeder's Stallion Championship for the West Central Series in September. Not bad for a 15 year old show ring rookie! In October he competed at Novice level at the Hill n Hound Horse Trials in Kane Illinois and had an absolute blast running and jumping!
Mountain Pearl's 1993 Performance Test Results
Performance Testing of Irish Stallions Pilot Program 1991-1993 Irish Horse Board The Irish Horse Board introduced a pilot program of performance testing in 1991. It was organized by the breed societies in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. The scheme received financial assistance from the Operational Programme for Rural Development. In the first instance suitable testing facilities were identified, together with the selection of qualified Master Trainers. All stallions tested were on the Approved for Breeding list and were examined to establish suitability for testing. The duration of the test was 12 weeks. Experienced assessors were appointed to evaluate the stallions. The evaluation was carried out at the 6-week stage and at the end of the test period. Each Master Trainer operated under a standard program and the traits evaluated were as follows: Conformation - maximum of 15 points Movement - maximum of 15 points Temperament - maximum of 20 points Jumping aptitude - maximum of 20 points Ease of riding - maximum of 30 points Above information (except the photo) is from an Irish Horse Board publication.
