Breakthrough - a four year old bay gelding out of a Mare by the great
Mountain Pearl had taken the Four Year Old Class at the recent Cavan
Indoor Championships. Owned by the Ministry of Defence and bred by
Paul Dillion from Co. Down, Judge Barry O Connor spoke very highly of
the winner and concurred to award the highest mark for the gelding's
jumping ability. "I have been judging horses for over 10 years and
this is the first time I have ever given scores of 10."

| Padi's Classic Design put in
appearances both weeks of the Mason City Hunter Jumper Show in the in-hand
classes. Christina's 2-year-old purebred filly looked stunning and
was very well behaved at her first show - which turned out to have a a
record number of entries. |
 |
Padi's Celtic Rose has
been very busy. First she and Mary Jo competed at the Mason City
Hunter Jumper show, they went on to a week at the Alpine Show. Mary Jo
showed her in lower classes and her friend Emily took her over larger
ones. She just keeps getting better and better.

Brothers Padi's Celtic Flight
and Padi's Celtic Riddle made their show ring debuts in sport horse
in-hand classes recently.
2-year-old Padi's Celtic Flight, owned Angela, placed 3rd in the
2-4 year old in hand sport horse class in Wyoming. People seemed find it
difficult to believe he is only 2 and that it was his first
show!
Padi's Celtic Riddle's debut in the ring was at a
Wisconsin recognized dressage show in the Yearling Colt/Gelding
class.. He took everything in stride - from the trailer ride to the
show site, although he did insist on announcing to the world repeatedly
that everyone should look at him. He placed 4th with nice
comments from the judge about what a nice riding horse he will be - which
was exactly what his owner Theresa wanted to hear. |

To Be Sure RIDSH wins
stallion class and ISH Championship at
Irish Extravaganza in Langley BC. His 3-year-old son TBS Flynn took

May 2007 Mountain Pearl arrives in Ireland and featured in the Irish
Farmers Journal
Mountain Pearl's Air France flight arrived 12 May 2007 at Shannon Airport
around 9:00 am (Iowa), 3 pm (Ireland). He and Sarah Hauschild were met at the
plane by Eddie and Kathy Meehan. After a bit of a stretch and a
roll in the grass for Mountain Pearl they loaded up and headed out
for Longwood Stud.
Our many thanks to Oliver at Eddie Brennan and Matt at IRT for the
fine care they have taken with all the preparations for transporting
Mountain Pearl back to his homeland.

Maggie's Ninth!

|
Magrathea
foaled her ninth bay pearl, a colt, on May 1. True to form, she
carefully avoided detection during foaling and both were on their feet and
eating when found. His name is Conor.
|
| First Fox Hollow
foal of the year has arrived! |
 |
Our wonderful TB mare Incredustar
(aka Portia) delivered a beautiful chestnut filly on April 7. In the
past Portia has created a lot of of stress for Diane during foaling
time. For one thing she shows none of the normal signs that she is
about to foal. Add that to her history and you can understand.
Her first foal arrived with no notice, when no one was home, in the middle
of the herd of mares. She chose to deliver her second was delivered
in a mud puddle. Diane went out to check on her a bit after tucking
her snugly into her stall and found she had managed to escape to the
paddock and was in the process of foaling in a dark corner in the
mud. So, expecting anything and watching like a hawk night after
night Portia chose 10:15 on a Saturday morning to foal - quietly and
uneventfully. The filly is very strong and stood and nursed within
an hour of birth. Now named "Una" |
Mountain Pearl started
his 30 day quarantine April 11 in preparation for shipping to Ireland
in May.
|
Malarki, a 6
year sport horse mare was being raised and prepared for a career in
eventing. Recently her owner Jane let a friend take her to a hunter
show and she promptly brought home RESERVE CHAMPION for 2 footers against
over 30 other horses. Yielding to Malarki's apparent preference for
hunter work Jane is offering her for sale. See more information on
our Pearls for Sale
web site. (3/07)

Erin McGraw RIDSH was
awarded 3rd place in the 2006 USDF All Breed Awards for her 1st level
Dressage despite only showing a few times. As you'll recall, this is
the talented mare who won the Dressage Diamond Cup at the IDHSNA show in
2005 and who also throws a hula hoop over her head. Congratulations
Erin, owner Meg, and trainer Laurie. (3/07) |
| Speaking of multi-talented horses -
Owner Vicki reports that their 6 year old sport horse gelding Cody has added a new career. Already an experienced
and talented Wyoming mountain trail horse he has now started eventing in
Houston and is doing very well. |
 |
 |
Padi's Classic
Reunion RID aka "Classy" started her hunting career this year
with the 3rd flight and took to it right away according to her
owner. Pam says "she is great around the hounds and quickly
learned her job. Good thing, because on her 3rd hunt they had to
lead a flight and she's been doing it ever since. Everyone is always
asking where I got her." |

Mountain
Pearl Returning to Ireland
We are delighted to announce that Mountain Pearl is heading home to his
native
Ireland
. We have teamed up with Mr.
Eddie Meehan at Longwood Stud,
County Sligo
Ireland
to give the Irish RID mare population access to Mountain Pearl’s
valuable outcross genetic makeup.
Our commitment to preserving the uniqueness of the Irish
Draught type and our concern for the rapid depletion of the diversity in
the Irish Draught breed led us to this decision.
We are thrilled to have Mountain Pearl joining Longwood Stud and
the Meehan family. Eddie has
a lifetime of experience with Irish Draughts and remembers a time years
ago when his family owned the young stallion
Mountain View
, who later sired Mountain Pearl.
Mountain
Pearl
’s job in
America
is complete. He has
successfully served as an incomparable ambassador for all Irish
Draughts, and for horses in general – non-horsey folks adore him as
much as the horsey set does.
Mountain
Pearl
's impact on sport horse enthusiasts in
North America
cannot be overlooked. He reminded riders at all levels that riding
is meant to be enjoyed, and that you don’t have to sacrifice
temperament for performance.
On
a personal level, although we are positive that the decision to
repatriate Mountain Pearl is the right one for the breed, we
are heartbroken to see him leave – a sentiment that will be shared by
all who have met and know him. We are grateful to Mountain
Pearl for sharing his charm, charisma, talent, playfulness and sense of
humor with us and will miss him terribly every day.
