Eventing

Mountain Pearl finished his first year of
competition with the horse trials at Hill n Hound. It was a fun filled
weekend at an absolutely beautiful facility. Mountain Pearl and
Sarah Hauschild competed in the Novice division. After a solid
dressage test they moved on to cross country. Mountain Pearl
absolutely loved it! He appeared to be in heaven galloping and jumping the
cross country course. Unfortunately, we had been unable to find a
water obstacle to school over before the competition. When
confronted with it Mountain Pearl behaved exactly as we should have
expected - he stopped. He was not going to take his rider into this
unknown danger. No sir he was not. And so ended our first
competition, but not the weekend. Sunday we were allowed to school
on the cross country and Sarah took Mountain Pearl back to the water
jump. She allowed him to fully investigate the horrors of the water,
then they watched another horse go in and out without being
eaten. After his first tentative wet steps he became quite the the
water enthusiast - trotting in giant steps as if to see how much he
could splash. Very soon he was galloping through and jumping in and
out of the water as if he'd done it all his life. Just wait 'til next
year! (10/2004) |

Grand Champion Stallion
 |
On
September 10, 2004 Mountain Pearl won Grand Champion Stallion in the 2004
Cosequin/USDF Breeder's Championship for the West Central Series.
This is the first time an Irish Draught has competed in this forum, and a
great boon for the breed as well as Mountain Pearl himself. Mountain
Pearl was shown by his trainer, Sarah Hauschild. Our thank you to
Sarah for all her help.

A True Performance Sire
The most recent update of the Irish Horse Board data on
genetic indexing shows Mountain Pearl as the leading RID sire standing in North
America. Fifteen of Mountain Pearl's offspring have earned points with the
prestigious Show Jumping Association of Ireland. Only one other stallion
standing in North America is listed at all. Mountain Pearl has proven once
again that he produces high performance in his foals.

Mountain Pearl makes long awaited show debut
People have asked for many years why we don't show Mountain Pearl. We have
long wanted to. However, being a very small breeding operation supported
to some degree by regular jobs, the hurdles have been numerous - Mountain
Pearl's busy breeding schedule, lack of a suitable trainer, mares and foals to
care for, etc. The good new is that in 2004 all the pieces have fallen
into place! Mountain Pearl and his wonderful trainer, eventer Sarah
Hauschild, competed at the USDF Dressage Lite show in June 2004. He had a great
time, scoring in the 60's in both of his tests. The judge described him
as "elegant". He also won the Mature Stallion Championship in
the in-hand division. Not bad for a first timer at age 15! We are
hoping to do some more dressage this year and either a hunter/jumper show or an event this fall.
Stay
tuned for more news of his fun!
